No-Nonsense Innovation:
Practical Strategies for Success
Bill Lowe, the Father of the IBM PC, and Cary Sherburne, a well-known author, consultant and journalist, bring more than 70 years of combined experience in the high tech industry to bear in the creation of this book.
Sherburne captures Lowe’s experiences, insight and practical advice, as well as the key business principles of the no-nonsense philosophy of Pragmatic Innovation, in an engaging, easy-to-read style that blends never-before-told inside stories linked to success and failures in innovation, with practical strategies and tactics for implementation of Pragmatic Innovation that can boost the bottom line and the innovation footprint of organizations of any size and across a broad range of industries and disciplines.
In addition to her own works, Cary Sherburne has ghost-written several books for busy executives. Her goal with these projects is to make the process as easy as possible, with the book reflecting the voice of the author and consuming as little of his/her time as possible in the process. For more information on how Sherburne can help you write the book you have always wanted to publish, but have never had time to complete, contact us.

First Coated Stock for Production Inkjet Introduced by NewPage
As more companies jump on board the production inkjet bandwagon and look for both new applications and those that can be transitioned from other production processes to feed these hungry giants, the lack of an optimized inkjet coated stock has been one barrier that many owners would like to see removed.
Last month, paper manufacturer NewPage was the first to announce an inkjet-optimized gloss coated stock for production inkjet presses with the launch of TrueJet™ Digital Coated Papers. While we certainly expect to see others following suit quickly, we also wanted to both recognize NewPage for this innovation and share more details about its background. Read more... |

Touchcode: A New Way to Make Print Interactive
I like to keep an eye out for interesting technologies that can have a beneficial effect on a consolidating printing industry. I am especially interested in things that make print interactive. Why? Because the ability to link print into the rest of the media mix is critical to its long-term future as a viable communications medium. No, I am not saying print is dead, or it is only valuable when used this way, but there is no question that the ability to more closely tie print into other media will make it a more attractive option for many marketers, who, left to their own devices, just might decide that print has a declining role in their marketing efforts. Making a Big Impression Trends in Large Format Printing
Many industry pundits spoke of drupa 2008 as “The Inkjet drupa,” and in many ways, it was. Following drupa 2008, a number of vendors brought to market four-color high-speed inkjet solutions that were shown at drupa in product or concept form, and those products are still coming to market.
As we approach drupa 2012, what are the technologies we can expect to see that will drive change in the printing and publishing markets? Read more.

Is There an iPad App in Your Future?
These days, you can barely pick up a magazine, watch TV or browse the Internet without seeing content related to smartphones, tablet computers and mobile computing in general. For almost any activity, one could say, “There’s an app for that.”
According to Gartner,[1] by 2015 there will be more than a billion smartphones (776 million) and tablets (318 million) globally.
Another source reports that by the middle of this year, more than 300,000 mobile apps had been developed and apps had been downloaded 10.9 billion times.
For many in the printing industry, this new wave of new media presents a competitive nightmare. But is it really? |

Production Automation: How Do You Get Started Affordably?
A Conversation with Enfocus Vice President Fabian Prudhomme
Production Automation was ranked second by the Must See 'ems selection committee at Graph Expo 2011: "Automation of the print production process starting with customer input and concluding with product in the box and semi-automatic invoicing is the evolving profile of new era printers."
Sometimes automation can seem overwhelming, especially if you are trying to address the entire process and run a business at the same time. Do you need to start with a full-blown end-to-end workflow product, or are there easier, more affordable ways to get started? If you have a full-blown workflow solution, are there automation gaps you need to fill?
I spoke with Fabian Prudhomme, Vice President of Enfocus, to get his perspective.

Graph Expo Retrospective; Critical and Opportunistic Technologies for Future Success
Each year, thousands of Graph Expo attendees grab the slim brochure that lists the industry's Must See 'ems and Worth A Looks. This program has been a highlight of the Executive Outlook Conference since 1999, and these selections by a panel of experts have become an industry-wide guide to compelling print production technology and products.
This year, of the approximately 1,800 products being exhibited by more than 475 suppliers, 29 were selected as Must See 'ems, and another 64, primarily niche products, were given the Worth A Look tag. This is important work conducted by a panel of volunteers. However, there is another aspect to the panel's work that is generally underreported. And that is the designation of critical and opportunistic technologies available to printing operations to spur growth, offer market differentiation and more. |
